Starts of tourism in Trogir were in first half of 20th century. Many world`s known names start to come to Trogir such as Bernard Shaw and English king Edward the VIII. 1936. first touristic guide book was published. Trogir offers accommodation in many small family hotels, private houses and villas, apartments and rooms....
Trogir is not just beautiful town for summer vacation. It is also town to learn history and visit some places and monuments important for Trogir`s history.
HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS
Center of Trogir are castle and a tower. Trogir has rich historical and cultural heritage, and a long history. Archeological findings show that this area has been inhabitated since prehistory, 2000 years before Christ. In the 3th and 2nd century B.C. the colony Tragurion was founded by the old Greeks. During the 1st century B.C. it became a Roman municipality. It was named Tragurium and it became famous by its stone.
There are not many Dalmatian towns which continued with its urban life. In 7th century Croats inhabitated this area and built the Church of St. Martha in Bijaci. This Church is today St. Barbara`s Church. It is very fascinating. At the southeast rim of the square, the sacral art museum lobby, there are preserved remains of the Church of St. Mary.

Since the 12th century Trogir was transformed into the autonomous commune. In that prosper times for Trogir, city walls, monasteries, houses and the Cathedral were built in Romanesque style. Radovan, the artisan created the portal of the Cathedral and on the Church of St. John the Baptist which was former male monastery. In 1271. first European pharmacy was opened in Trogir.
From 1420. Trogir falls under Venetian rule and because of the fear of the Turks, walls and forts were built. There are many monumental buildings that surround town`s main square such as Communal Palace, Little and Great Cipiko Palace, St. Lawrence Cathedral, loggia, St. Sebastian`s Church with town clock...
Great Palace of Cipiko is the most precious building from 15th century, with ornamentation made by Nikola Firentinac, Andrija Alesi and Ivan Duknovic. They also built and ornamented Chapel of Blessed John of Trogir.
The town loggia made in 14th century, served as a court. It is placed on the south side like south gates from 16th century, which extoled the town. There is a loggia alongside the gates which was used for travellers who didn`t make on time to enter the town during the day. North gates are protected by statue of St. John standing above them.
There is a female monastery of St. Nicholas from 11th century and today`s museum of Trogir former Garagnin Fanfogna Palace.
During the beginning of 19th century French ruled Trogir. In that time some schools were opened, walls were demolished, roads were built. After French rule Trogir falls under Austrian rule till 20th century. During that time also schools and seaside courthouse were built.
After that Trogir got under old Yugoslavian rule and when old Yugoslavia failed it got under FNR and SFR Yugoslavia. In 1990. Trogir became part of Independent Republic of Croatia, but it kept rich cultural and historical heritage and in 1997. it was added to UNESCO`s World Heritage List.

LOCATION AND CLIMATE
Trogir (Croatia) is a town situated in Central Dalmatia region. It is also harbour and holiday resort. Trogir is located on little island, between island Ciovo and mainland, connected with the mainland with two bridges. Trogir is around 30 km far from Split. It is connected with other Dalmatian towns with Adriatic road. Municipality of Trogir is consisted of 8 settlements: Arbanija, Divulje, Mastrinka, Zedno, Drvenik Mali, Drvenik Veliki, Plano and Trogir.
Trogir has around 13000 inhabitants. They are mostly directed to agriculture, shipyard, fish industry and tourism.
Area of Central Dalmatia has Mediterranean climate. Trogir Riviera is filled with coves, bays, capes... It is known Olt Trogir Cove with sand, rocky and pebbly beaches, Voluja cove, Vela Rina cove, Saldun cove, Krknjasi cove, Pantana area which has a water well, beach and small creek eastern of Trogir. Like Mediterranean climate this area is rich with Mediterranean vegetation, vineyards, olive trees, aromatic herbs, garden-sage... There is also possibility of trips, rides, water sports...
